Through its Schools’ Support program, Petra Diamonds’ Cullinan diamond mine (CDM) has effectively launched its Gumboot Recycling project, which aims to reduce plastic waste while promoting education.
CDM employees contribute to eco-friendly shoe production
CDM employees also contributed to the initiative by donating their used gumboots, cleaning, reprocessing, and transforming them into eco-friendly school shoes to show their commitment to the project.
Leeuwfontein Primary Farm School receives first donation of shoes
A total of 940 kg of gumboots was recycled, coupled with additional financial support from CDM, allowing 100 pairs of shoes to be donated to learners at the Leeuwfontein Primary Farm School, Region 5 – the first beneficiaries of the project.

By turning waste into opportunity, we not only reduce our environmental footprint but also provide tangible support to the learners in our communities. “This project is a testament to our purpose of creating abundance from rarity,” says Petra Diamonds CEO Richard Duffy.
