FLSmidth Tailors Global Tech to Boost Local Mining Solutions

by Adenike Adeodun

FLSmidth, a global leader in mining technology, intensifies its customer-centric approach through a strategic footprint expansion, leveraging local expertise and solutions.

According to a report by African Mining Market, Alistair McKay, FLSmidth’s Head for Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia (SSAMESA), underscores the CORE’26 mission’s pivotal role. “CORE’26 anchors on sustainability, technology, service, and performance,” McKay states.

“Our five global regions bolster sales, service, and execution, backed by our global network,” he continues. Significant resources nestle in nations like the U.S., Denmark, Germany, India, and particularly South Africa, providing robust support.

The company’s optimization efforts are palpable. Johannesburg, the mining nucleus for SSAMESA, has seen substantial infrastructure investments. Noteworthy sites include Stormill and Delmas, specializing in KREBS® products and vibrating screen production, respectively, and Chloorkop’s service center excels in high-pressure grinding roll refurbishments.

“These facilities don’t just serve the region but contribute globally,” McKay notes, emphasizing the extensive manufacturing, assembly, and refurbishment capabilities.

The expanded regional presence extends to Ghana, Saudi Arabia, and India. McKay explains, “This approach enhances our proximity to Sub-Saharan, South Asian, and Middle Eastern clients, fortifying local manufacturing within our global supply chain.”

Technical expertise remains crucial. “Our knowledge is essential for customer projects and broader African development,” McKay asserts.

Focusing on local production, especially in South Africa, boosts the economy and hones local skills. FLSmidth actively nurtures talent, offering extensive training, apprenticeships, and scholarships.

“Our commitment is evident across the full flowsheet of sustainable, world-class offerings. Investing in research and development is crucial, aligning with our sustainability goals and aiding clients’ eco-friendly transitions,” McKay concludes.
