Koryx to Start Drilling on Zambia Copper Projects

by Adedotun Oyeniyi

KEY POINTS

  • Koryx will drill 2,500 m at Luanshya West from September.
  • About 3,000 soil samples will be collected at Mpongwe.
  • Koryx is raising its Zambian ownership from 51% to 80%.

TSX-listed Koryx Copper is set to begin its first diamond drilling programme at the Luanshya West project in Zambia before the end of September, as the company steps up exploration across its Zambian copper assets.

The initial programme will cover about 2,500 metres of drilling across three or four priority targets identified through recent exploration work. Koryx expects the drilling campaign to be completed by mid-December 2026.

The planned holes will be inclined and designed to test several geological features, including surface geochemical anomalies, induced polarisation chargeability and resistivity responses, as well as structural targets.

The holes will reach vertical depths ranging from about 100 metres to 250 metres, allowing the company to investigate mineralisation identified through surface exploration and geophysical surveys.

Koryx said detailed magnetic surveying, soil sampling and pitting conducted at Luanshya West have helped narrow down and prioritise four targets for the maiden drilling campaign.

Mpongwe exploration also expands

Koryx is also advancing exploration at its Mpongwe project, where it plans to conduct about 3,000 soil samples.

The programme will include follow-up and infill sampling at the Lwabufubu, MP1 and MP2 targets, which were identified during soil sampling conducted in 2025.

The company will also carry out regional soil sampling across western sections of the licence that could not be covered during last year’s programme.

Sampling is expected to be completed by early November. The results, together with the possible early arrival of the rainy season, will determine whether Koryx proceeds with shallow follow-up drilling at Mpongwe before the end of 2026 or moves that work into 2027.

The expanded sampling programme is intended to improve the company’s understanding of the mineralisation across the licence and identify additional targets for future drilling.

The exploration push comes alongside a decision by Koryx to increase its ownership of Koryx Copper Zambia, the company that holds the Luanshya West and Mpongwe projects.

Under an amended and restated option agreement with World Class Mineral Ventures, Koryx, through its wholly owned subsidiary Koryx Copper Mauritius, will increase its interest in Koryx Copper Zambia from 51% to 80%.

The revised arrangement also removes the remaining contractual expenditure commitments required to complete the earn-in.
