KEY POINTS

  • CEO Iggy Tan and CTO Dr Jingyuan Liu will resign on October 30.
  • Lithium Universe has begun searching for a new CEO.
  • The company remains focused on refinery projects in Canada and the US.

Lithium Universe has announced the departure of its chief executive officer, Iggy Tan, and chief technology officer, Dr Jingyuan Liu, as the company prepares for its next phase of growth in North America.

The Australian Securities Exchange-listed lithium refiner said both executives would leave their positions effective October 30, 2026, to pursue other opportunities.

Following the announcement, Lithium Universe’s board has commenced a formal search for a new chief executive to lead the company through its next stage of development.

The incoming CEO will be expected to oversee the company’s growth strategy as it advances its lithium refining projects in Canada and the United States.

The board has not disclosed who will replace Tan or provided further details about the transition arrangements following the two executives’ departures.

Focus Remains on North American Refineries

Lithium Universe is developing two major lithium carbonate refining projects in North America: the Bécancour lithium carbonate refinery in Canada and the Brownsville lithium refinery in the United States.

The projects form part of the company’s efforts to establish a presence in the lithium processing sector, which supplies materials used in rechargeable batteries, including those powering electric vehicles and energy storage systems.

Lithium carbonate is a key material in the battery supply chain, making refining capacity an important part of efforts to support the growing demand for battery technologies.

The leadership changes come as the company continues working towards advancing its planned facilities. The appointment of a new CEO will be important in determining how Lithium Universe manages its development priorities and executes its growth plans.

However, the company has not announced any changes to the status or development plans of either refinery following the resignations.
