Nigeria has secured three partnerships with United States companies aimed at modernising its mining industry, improving energy supply and strengthening security at mining sites.
The partnerships were announced at the US-Nigeria Strategic Investment Dialogue in New York as the Federal Government seeks to attract more foreign investment, technology and jobs into the country’s critical minerals sector.
Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, said the government was focused on turning investment discussions into commercial partnerships that could support Nigeria’s industrial development.
The agreements bring together Nigerian mining company Promethean Resources and three US firms, Vermeer Corporation, Renewvia Energy Corporation and Terra Industries.
The companies will collaborate across mining equipment, renewable energy and security, with the partnerships expected to support technology transfer, local processing, job creation and development around mining communities.
Vermeer to support modern mining
Promethean Resources and Vermeer Corporation are exploring a partnership to introduce advanced and precision mining equipment to Nigerian operations.
The proposed collaboration will cover Promethean’s portfolio of iron ore, tin, lithium and gold deposits.
The companies intend to use modern equipment and technology to improve mining efficiency, strengthen workforce development and promote more responsible extraction and processing of mineral resources.
The partnership could also help Nigerian operators gain access to specialised mining technologies that can improve productivity and support greater value addition within the country.
Promethean has also entered discussions with Renewvia Energy Corporation to develop renewable power solutions for mining and mineral processing operations.
The initial plan involves assessing priority mining locations and developing scalable solar power, battery storage and mini-grid systems.
Beyond supplying mining operations, the proposed energy projects are expected to extend more reliable and affordable electricity to surrounding host communities.
The companies said the approach could support industrial productivity while contributing to local economic development and improved energy access in mining areas.
A third partnership involving Promethean and Terra Industries will focus on security at mining and mineral processing sites.
The companies have signed a Letter of Intent to explore the deployment of technology-enabled security systems, including autonomous surveillance towers, unmanned aerial systems and Terra’s Artemis OS platform.
The technology is intended to improve perimeter monitoring, detect threats and strengthen the response to security incidents.
Initial deployment is proposed for mining operations in Plateau and Kaduna states, with the possibility of expanding the system to other mining locations across Nigeria.
