The appointment brings extensive financial, strategic and operational experience to Newmont’s leadership as the company continues to focus on improving operational performance, managing its asset portfolio and delivering sustainable long-term value.
Beaven served as group chief financial officer of global mining giant BHP between 2015 and 2021. His experience extends beyond financial management. Beaven has held senior operational and executive positions across several areas of the resources industry, including copper, manganese and carbon steel.
He also previously served as nonexecutive chairperson of the International Copper Association, further strengthening his credentials in the global mining sector.
Newmont Highlights Strategic Value
Newmont chairperson Greg Boyce described Beaven as a respected leader in the extractive industries, saying his broad experience in large-scale resource businesses would complement the existing expertise on Newmont’s board.
The company believes his background will be particularly valuable as it continues to make strategic decisions around its portfolio, investments and operational priorities.
Newmont CEO Natascha Viljoen also welcomed the appointment, highlighting Beaven’s financial and strategic expertise.
She said his experience would support the company’s efforts to maintain disciplined portfolio management, improve operational performance and create sustainable long-term value for shareholders.
Beaven’s appointment comes as major mining companies face growing pressure to allocate capital efficiently, maintain strong operational performance and balance shareholder returns with long-term investment in their assets.
With his experience at BHP and across several major mineral sectors, Beaven is expected to contribute to Newmont’s oversight of financial strategy, risk and corporate governance through the board’s audit committee.
