Huawei Unveils Next-Gen Smart PV, ESS Solutions for All

Revolutionizing Energy with Cutting-Edge Residential, C&I Technologies

by Oluwatosin Alabi

At the recent Huawei Digital Solar & Storage Live Africa 2024, Huawei made headlines with the unveiling of its latest innovations in smart PV (photovoltaic) products and solutions tailored for both commercial & industrial (C&I) and residential applications. Nick Lusson, the Vice President of Huawei Eastern-Africa Digital Power, spearheaded the presentation, showcasing Huawei’s cutting-edge advancements in the renewable energy sector. These new solutions promise to redefine the landscape of energy generation, storage, and management, further cementing Huawei’s position as a leader in the industry.

Huawei’s integrated C&I smart PV solution is a comprehensive package that includes PV, Energy Storage Systems (ESS), charging facilities, optimisers, and cloud management. This holistic approach offers a one-stop solution for a wide array of scenarios and load requirements. Central to Huawei’s design philosophy is the emphasis on safety and reliability, ensuring that their PV+ESS system delivers on the promise of enhanced energy production with simplified operation and maintenance procedures. Moreover, the system’s systematic design enables superior product adaptation, encompassing more monitoring and management capabilities.

A significant highlight of Huawei’s presentation was the introduction of their 150KW string inverters, the SUN5000/2000-150K-MG0, designed for the C&I sector. This inverter boasts six key features: increased power generation, active safety, enduring reliability, minimalistic operation and maintenance, efficient site construction, and industry compatibility. With a rated output power upgrade to 150KW and a peak at 165KW, this inverter aims to deliver high-quality, adaptable solutions for C&I projects. Its maximum efficiency of 98.8%, along with a built-in PID repair solution, component-level optimisation, and unique safety features like intelligent string disconnection protection (SSLD) and intelligent DC ground protection, underscores Huawei’s commitment to innovation and safety in energy generation.

In the residential sector, Huawei introduced its all-scenario smart PV & ESS solutions, the Power-M and Luna2.0. The Power-M represents a mainstream solution employing an all-in-one modular design that supports flexible capacity expansion and streamlined installation. The Luna2.0, on the other hand, is a premium solution that excels in aesthetics, safety, and intelligence. Notably, the Luna S1 model, a part of the Luna 2.0 suite, is a new residential energy storage product that features a single battery module of 6.9kWh, boasting greater capacity, extended life, and enhanced safety. This product’s design excellence has been recognized with the prestigious iF design award, highlighting its blend of practicality and aesthetic appeal.

Safety is paramount in Huawei’s product designs, especially in the context of the rising popularity of solar PV worldwide. The Luna 2.0 suite is equipped with comprehensive safety features to mitigate the risk of fires, both above and below the roof. Huawei’s energy storage systems, including the Luna S1, incorporate industry-leading safety measures such as cell-level protection and active pressure relief technology. Moreover, the Luna 2.0 system’s intelligence capabilities allow for seamless integration with power providers’ scheduled outages, ensuring energy availability during blackouts.

Huawei’s SmartDesign tool is another innovative offering that supports professional PV design for both residential and C&I scenarios, facilitating optimized installations. The tool provides a free site survey, further demonstrating Huawei’s commitment to providing solutions that are not only technologically advanced but also user-friendly and efficient.

The launch event, attended by dealers, trade partners, and installers, marks a significant milestone in Huawei’s journey within the renewable energy sector. By introducing these new smart PV and ESS solutions, Huawei is not just promoting sustainable energy generation; it’s also paving the way for safer, more efficient, and aesthetically pleasing energy solutions for both commercial and residential use. As the world continues to embrace green energy transitions, Huawei’s innovations stand out as vital contributions to this global effort, promising a brighter, cleaner, and more sustainable future.
