On a tragic Sunday afternoon in Limpopo, a devastating collision between a bus and a truck resulted in the tragic death of at least 20 individuals. This harrowing incident transpired on the R572 highway.
Eyewitness reports suggest that the bus, which was primarily transporting workers from the town of Musina to their workplace at the Venetia Diamond Mine located near Alldays, was engulfed in flames immediately after the collision.
Multiple accounts and narratives have been shared across social media platforms, with many indicating that the bus and the truck had collided head-on. However, as of now, there’s no official statement confirming these details.
Florence Radzilani, who holds the position of MEC for Transport and Community Safety in Limpopo, has articulated that a comprehensive update regarding the incident will be made available to the public once the South African Police Service (SAPS) wraps up its in-depth investigation.
Adding to the immediacy of the situation, videos presumably taken from the accident scene are circulating on social media platforms.
These chilling visuals depict the bus engulfed in fierce flames with the harrowing sight of multiple lifeless bodies strewn across the adjacent road area. Among the chaotic aftermath, a distinctly burned tire is noticeably positioned several meters away from the bus’s charred remains.
In a response to this grievous incident, Radzilani has announced her intentions to personally visit the crash site come Monday.
Her aim is to meticulously assess the situation, gather firsthand details about the accident, and extend her support to the victims who are presently recuperating in nearby hospitals.
In this endeavor, she will be joined by Godfrey Mawela, the esteemed Mayor of the Musina Local Municipality, as well as high-ranking representatives from the Venetia Diamond Mine.
