Blencowe Advances DFS Work at Orom-Cross Graphite Mine

Uganda graphite project secures hydropower, roads, and DFC support while drilling points to fresh deposit potential

Key Points

  • DFS infrastructure progress strengthens Orom-Cross graphite project, boosting its low-cost and ESG-friendly profile.

  • The project is tied to a $5 million DFC grant, with most funds already released.

  • A record drill campaign suggests a new graphite deposit at Beehive, likely expanding reserves.

Blencowe Resources has completed major infrastructure work for its definitive feasibility study (DFS) at the Orom-Cross graphite project in Uganda, marking a big step toward development.

The London-listed miner also wrapped up its largest drilling program to date, aimed at boosting reserves and testing a new discovery.

Infrastructure Progress Brings Project Closer to Production

Much of the DFS work aligns with requirements set by the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), which has already released $4.75 million of its $5 million grant. The balance will be paid once the DFS is finished.

Two power substations will soon connect the project to Uganda’s hydropower grid, ensuring steady access to cheap renewable energy.

At the same time, a UK-funded road upgrade is improving transport links to Kenyan ports, cutting long-term logistics costs. Work is also under way on water systems, communications, and permanent camp facilities.

Blencowe said Orom-Cross remains one of the lowest-cost major graphite projects to bring into production, a position confirmed by prefeasibility results. The DFS is expected to strengthen that cost advantage further. Rail access from Gulu is also being considered to support long-term exports.

Drilling Unlocks New Discovery

The company’s 6,750-meter drilling program returned promising results, pointing to a potentially significant new deposit. Assay results are expected soon, which could expand the project’s JORC-compliant resource base.

Executive Chair Cameron Pearce said the progress marks a “major de-risking milestone,” with hydropower, water and road access already secured. “With DFS results, assays and offtake discussions all ahead, Orom-Cross is on the cusp of a major value shift,” he said.
