KEY POINTS

  • Jubilee signed a power purchase agreement with Lunsemfwa Hydro to secure renewable energy for its Zambian operations.
  • The company aims to reach a copper production target of 25,000 metric tons per year.
  • Jubilee is ramping up its Munkoyo open-pit operation and advancing its waste rock reprocessing project.

Jubilee, led by Leon Coetzer, has secured stable electricity for its Zambian operations by signing a power purchase agreement with Lunsemfwa Hydro Power Company. The agreement guarantees uninterrupted, 100% renewable energy for the company’s processing plants.

Power stability is important as Zambia continues to face devastating electricity supply challenges.

Copper production and expansion plans

For Jubilee, consistent power is key to executing its copper production strategy, which aims for an initial capacity of 25,000 metric tons per year.

Jubilee’s copper strategy revolves around two major operations: the Sable refinery and the upgraded Roan concentrator. The company plans to maximize capacity through both open-pit mining and the reprocessing of surface waste. The Roan front-end module has reached design capacity, and operations have been handed over to the on-site team.

In addition, the Munkoyo open-pit operation is progressing, targeting 15,000 tons per month of run-of-mine ore. This includes 5,000 tons of high-grade copper ore, directly delivered to the Sable refinery. Lower-grade ore is stockpiled for future processing.

Jubilee is also advancing its waste rock reprocessing project, with over 260 million tons of surface material available. A trial of 15,000 tons will be processed through Roan’s front-end module in November as part of due diligence.

“The frequent rolling outages posed a risk to our operations, but securing a reliable power source has been crucial for achieving design throughput at the Roan front-end module,” said CEO Leon Coetzer.

Expanding operations to meet production goals

Coetzer added that Jubilee is well-positioned to meet its copper production targets. “With upgrades at Roan and Sable, we are set to reach 25,000 tons per year. Our ramp-up at Munkoyo and progress on Project G, which could be operational within four months, will further drive copper output.”

He also noted that discussions to secure two additional open-pit opportunities are progressing well, expressing confidence in Jubilee’s ability to continue expanding its copper operations.
