  • Dele Alake endorses the November 11–13 summit to explain Nigeria’s new mining tax rules.
  • MAN and CITN have also backed the event and pledged to participate.
  • The summit will explore how mining taxes can boost government revenue and attract investment.

Dele Alake, minister of solid minerals development, has endorsed Nigeria’s first National Mining Tax Summit, scheduled to hold in Abuja from November 11 to 13, 2026.

In a letter dated October 6 and addressed to the editor of The Miners magazine, Alake described the summit as a timely initiative to educate mining operators and other industry stakeholders on the country’s new solid minerals taxation framework.

The minister said the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development welcomed the initiative organised by Miners Communications Limited, publishers of The Miners Magazine and The Miners Online, in partnership with Secom Limited and Lambard Consulting.

According to Alake, the Federal Government’s ongoing fiscal reforms include changes to revenue collection and a renewed focus on taxation in the solid minerals sector.

He said the new framework introduces joint management of solid minerals taxation by the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development and the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS).

Alake explained that the summit would provide an opportunity to familiarise industry players with the new procedures, taxes, levies and platforms established for collecting revenue from mining activities.

He formally endorsed the event and expressed confidence that its deliberations would benefit the sector.

Mining association and tax institute back event

The summit has also received support from the Miners Association of Nigeria (MAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).

In a letter dated September 16, MAN national president Dele Ayanleke accepted the invitation and endorsed the initiative, describing it as timely and important to sustainable economic growth.

The association pledged to contribute its industry expertise, participate in panel discussions and engage with other stakeholders during the event.

CITN also confirmed its participation in a letter dated September 4, signed by its registrar and chief executive, Afolake Oso.

The institute nominated two professionals to contribute to the summit’s discussions on mining taxation and compliance.

CITN nominated Azeez Alatoye, lead legal consultant at Ascension Legal Services and dean of the institute’s extractive industry tax faculty, as the keynote speaker.

Alatoye is expected to present a paper titled “Aligning Mining Operations with Current Tax Laws”, focusing on the relationship between mining activities and Nigeria’s evolving tax requirements.

The institute also nominated Wahab Omoniyi, assistant director and head of budget at the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency, as a panellist. Omoniyi also chairs CITN’s solid minerals sub-committee.
