Mixtec to Showcase Smarter Mineral Processing at Electra Mining Africa

Mixtec is set to showcase its latest agitation technologies for battery mineral processing and solvent extraction at Electra Mining Africa 2026 in Johannesburg, as mining companies seek more efficient ways to process minerals critical to the global energy transition.

The company will exhibit at Stand B32 in the Blue Zone during the event, which runs from September 7 to 11 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, Nasrec.

With more than four decades of experience and over 65,000 installations worldwide, Mixtec supplies customised agitation systems for minerals including lithium, nickel, cobalt, graphite, manganese, rare earth elements and copper.

A key technology on display will be Mixtec’s SX Mixer, designed for solvent extraction, an important stage in hydrometallurgical mineral processing.

The mixer is engineered to provide effective contact between processing phases while maintaining controlled mixing intensity. According to the company, the technology is designed to improve extraction efficiency, reduce maintenance requirements and support reliable long-term plant operation.

Mixtec has deployed its solvent extraction mixing technology in battery mineral processing circuits in different parts of the world.

Customised solutions for complex processes

The company says battery mineral processing presents different mixing requirements depending on the characteristics of the material and the objectives of each processing plant.

Rather than relying on standard equipment, Mixtec designs its agitators around specific operating conditions. These include slurry density, viscosity, solids loading, gas dispersion requirements and the desired process outcome.

Its agitation systems can be used across several stages of mineral processing, including leaching, neutralisation, precipitation, crystallisation, reagent preparation and solvent extraction.

The approach is intended to improve plant reliability while helping operators achieve better recovery rates and manage energy consumption.

Mixtec Managing Director Jono Lyndon said the company’s focus is on combining application expertise with advanced impeller and mixer designs to help mineral processors improve efficiency.

He said there is no single mixing solution that works for every battery mineral application because different processes create different technical challenges.

The company believes more efficient agitation can help mining and mineral processing companies lower energy consumption, improve process performance and increase operational reliability.
