KEY POINTS

  • Mariposa County has made mining the first sector in its economic development initiative, developing a Mining Strategic Plan that Lode Gold says aids its Fremont project.
  • Lode Gold is advancing the historic Fremont gold mine toward a pre-feasibility and then feasibility study, targeting a modern bulk underground operation.
  • With Blue Moon Metals and Mariposa Gold Mines also active locally, the company sees scope for a stronger regional mining ecosystem and supply chain.

Lode Gold Resources has welcomed Mariposa County’s decision to make mining the first sector in its new economic development initiative, a move it says strengthens the case for its Fremont gold project in California.

The county, whose mining roots stretch back to the Gold Rush, is developing a Mining Strategic Plan to map opportunities and challenges and create a coordinated framework for future mining-related growth. Moreover, the broader push aims to diversify the local economy, support year-round jobs and encourage investment through easier permitting and worker attraction.

A boost for Fremont

According to CEO Wendy Chan, the county’s renewed focus on responsible mining creates a more constructive environment to advance Fremont, a historic gold mine tied to the 1849 California Gold Rush. Specifically, she said Lode Gold aims to bring Fremont back toward production using modern mining and environmental standards while creating long-term local opportunities.

The company is advancing Fremont through exploration, resource work and mine development studies. Furthermore, it is targeting a pre-feasibility study and then a feasibility study, evaluating a modern bulk underground operation supported by an extensive historical database. Consequently, Lode Gold believes existing infrastructure, that database and a sizable resource could speed the project’s timeline.

A wider mining ecosystem

However, Lode Gold is not alone in the county. Specifically, Blue Moon Metals is advancing its Blue Moon Project, while Mariposa Gold Mines is working on the Mount Ophir and Princeton mines. Although each project is independently owned, the company argues their combined presence could build a stronger local mining ecosystem.

That ecosystem could deepen the talent pool. Additionally, multiple active projects may support skilled-workforce development, specialised contractors, local suppliers and shared infrastructure across the mining supply chain. Therefore, Lode Gold framed the county plan as a chance to lift the whole emerging sector, not just one mine.

Ultimately, the company said it welcomes the chance to work with Mariposa County, local businesses and other operators as the Mining Strategic Plan takes shape, positioning Fremont within a revived regional gold district.
