Giyani Metals Discovers New Manganese Targets, Secures Licences

Mining sector in Botswana set for boost with battery-grade manganese focus

by Adenike Adeodun

KEY POINTS

  • Giyani Metals renews six key prospecting licences, with one pending.
  • New manganese ore targets identified through remote sensing surveys.
  • Giyani is focused on expanding production for the K.Hill battery-grade manganese project.

New manganese ore targets have been found, according to Giyani Metals Corp., a prominent developer in Botswana’s battery-grade manganese industry.

Additionally, the business was able to renew six of its seven prospecting licenses, demonstrating its dedication to growing manganese production in the area.

Giyani’s fresh discoveries bolster its partnership with Botswana’s Ministry of Mines and demonstrate its strategic focus on high-potential locations for future mining operations.

According to Mining Review, the production of battery-grade manganese, which is essential to the manufacturing of batteries for electric vehicles, is expected to increase as a result of these advancements.

Major discoveries and licence renewals

The company’s long-term objective of becoming a major producer of manganese of superior quality is in line with its renewed emphasis on Botswana’s abundant natural resources.

Remote sensing surveys earlier this year have already identified many additional manganese oxide ore prospects as a result of Giyani’s exploratory operations.

“The successful renewal of key licenses and the identification of new manganese targets reflect our commitment to unlocking the full potential of Botswana’s mineral resources,” said Charles FitzRoy, President and CEO of Giyani Metals, underscoring the significance of these accomplishments.

Giyani has six prospecting licenses in all, which span 1,884 square kilometers and have been extended through 2026. There is one more license that needs to be renewed by December 2024. Giyani is in a position to increase exploratory activities in the area thanks to the renewal of these licenses.

Strategic focus on battery-grade manganese

Along with finding new targets, Giyani has also obtained a mining license for the K.Hill project, a major endeavor to produce manganese suitable for batteries. In order to maximize its resources for targeted exploration and production operations, the corporation keeps up its solid partnerships with local authorities.

The company’s choice to give up a smaller license with less geological prospects is one of the noteworthy aspects. Giyani is able to focus on high-potential regions with improved manganese production possibilities by combining their efforts in this calculated approach.

In order to expand the K.Hill project’s lifespan beyond its present 60-year forecast, the business is also investigating new ore deposits at locations like Otse, Lobatse, and Mogobane.

Commitment to Botswana’s mining future

The emphasis Giyani Metals places on domestic production and processing in Botswana is consistent with the larger trend of rising value addition in the continent’s mining industry.

The company is well-positioned to contribute significantly to the development of battery-grade manganese for international markets, with a particular focus on cooperation with the Botswana Ministry of Mines.

The mining industry in Botswana appears to have a bright future, especially in the field of battery metals, as long as Giyani keeps exploring and investing in the area.

“As we continue to explore these key areas for production expansion, we look forward to updating our stakeholders on further developments,” FitzRoy continued.
