Southern Palladium, listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), has successfully completed an initial resource drilling campaign. This effort is part of a pre-feasibility study (PFS) for the Bengwenyama platinum group metal (PGM) project, located on the eastern limb of South Africa’s Bushveld Complex. All assay results have been received.
A total of 82 drillholes were completed, spanning 30,746 meters, including 50 reef deflections. The drilling results for the upper group 2 (UG2) reef consistently confirmed the initial inferred mineral resource grades and prill split. This affirmation underscores the robustness of the UG2 reef and the broader project, according to the company.
Additional samples were collected for metallurgical test-work to confirm the recovery of by-product chromite from the UG2 reef. Footwall mineralization of the Merensky Reef (MR) has also been observed and is under further investigation.
An updated mineral resource estimate (MRE) is expected in the third quarter of the year. This update will facilitate the start of mine planning for the PFS.
Managing Director Johan Odendaal highlighted the significance of completing 82 drill holes. He noted that the results provide a strong foundation for the upcoming mineral resource update and the ongoing PFS. “The metallurgical test-work on chromite recovery and the investigation of mineralization in the footwall of the Merensky reef will further enhance our understanding of the resource potential,” Odendaal said.
He added, “We remain committed to advancing the Bengwenyama project, leveraging our experienced management team and strategic positioning in the global platinum group metals market. The forthcoming updates and continued drilling for the definitive feasibility study will be crucial in realizing the full potential of this world-class asset.”
Southern Palladium’s efforts mark a significant milestone in its exploration journey. The company’s strategic positioning and experienced management team continue to drive the project forward, with promising results pointing towards a successful future for the Bengwenyama PGM project.
