Awalé Resources has recently made headlines with its announcement of a significant gold-copper discovery at the BBM Target within the Odienné Project in Côte d’Ivoire. This new find marks a pivotal moment for Awalé, presenting an opportunity for rapid expansion in a greenfield area with no prior exploration.
The BBM discovery is not just a milestone for the company but also for the industry, as it highlights the untapped potential of the region. The exploration methods developed by Awalé have proven successful, uncovering an 8-kilometer strike potential at the site. This discovery is particularly notable due to its “blind greenfield” nature, meaning it was identified without any previous exploration indicators.
According to a report by Mining Review, Andrew Chubb, CEO of Awalé Resources, expressed his enthusiasm about the discovery: “The BBM discovery is a significant milestone for Awalé. We see huge potential to rapidly advance this target with its current strike potential. Now that we have clearly delineated this major domain boundary, we can potentially find new targets between BBM and Lando while we continue to develop these targets.”
In addition to BBM, the Charger Target has yielded significant results with visible gold, and the first two scout holes at the Lando Target, located 10 km northwest of BBM, have shown new mineralization. These developments at Charger and Lando reinforce the company’s position as a leader in gold exploration in the region.
The recent drilling at Lando has been encouraging, warranting further systematic exploration. Moreover, the final holes drilled at Charger have revealed a new mineralized orientation, now being targeted in the current drill program.
Chubb further highlighted the company’s achievements: “These results cap off a year of significant milestone achievements for Awalé, where we have now made three significant discoveries
on the Odienné project in 2023, bringing us to four discoveries in total. This is a massive achievement for the Awalé team.”
This series of discoveries by Awalé Resources underscores the rich mineral potential of Côte d’Ivoire, a region increasingly recognized for its untapped resources. The BBM discovery, in particular, exemplifies the successful application of innovative exploration techniques and strategic foresight in mining.
Awalé’s progress extends beyond exploration. The company has undergone notable changes at the board and management levels and has achieved significant recapitalization. Notably, Orecap has acquired a 15% stake in the company, while Newmont has increased its stake to 15.45%. These developments, combined with the new discoveries, position Awalé Resources on a trajectory for robust growth in 2024.
The company’s success story in Côte d’Ivoire serves as a beacon for mining exploration in West Africa, demonstrating the potential for new discoveries in regions previously underexplored. With its innovative approach and strategic partnerships, Awalé Resources is poised to continue its impressive growth and contribute significantly to the mining sector in the region.
As Awalé Resources continues to explore and develop its projects in Côte d’Ivoire, the mining industry watches closely. The BBM discovery, coupled with ongoing exploration at Charger and Lando, signifies a new era of mining exploration and potential in West Africa, offering exciting prospects for the future of the region’s mining industry.
